Graves Out-raises All Challengers Combined; In Strong Financial Shape Heading into GOP Primary

Hawkins fails to disclose source of nearly $121,000 in contributions

7/9/2010 - Tom Graves campaign

Finance reports filed yesterday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) showed U.S. Rep. Tom Graves’ re-election campaign in strong financial shape and significantly outpacing the candidates challenging him in the July 20th Republican Primary.

Congressman Graves raised $197,457 in just 40 short days, which was more than all his challengers combined. This brings his total raised for the 2010 Election Cycle to $951,276 from 4,430 contributors.

The report also showed that Congressman Graves had just over $100,000 remaining cash on hand.

Congressman Graves was elected to Congress in a Special Election Runoff on June 8th to fill the 9th District’s unexpired term, receiving 56.5 percent of the vote. He also finished first in the May 11th Special General Election.

“We promised if elected we would be a bold, conservative voice in Washington,” said Congressman Graves. “Yesterday’s reports demonstrate North Georgians are pleased with the leadership we are providing because we’ve kept our word. We voted to audit the Federal Reserve, co-sponsored Congressman Linder’s FairTax bill and legislation to repeal ObamaCare and balance the budget. Our team will continue to ensure our conservative voice is maintained in Washington.”

Those challenging Congressman Graves in the primary only showed a combined $23,461 in contributions during the crucial days after the June 8th Special General Runoff Election and leading up to the July 20th Primary Election, while the Republican from Ranger brought in $110,982.

Hawkins’ two latest reports are incomplete and unclear as to how much money he has raised and the source of some of his contributions.

On June 28th, Hawkins reports $282,484 cash on hand at the close of books for the Post Special General Runoff Election report.

However, on the very next day, June 29th, Hawkins shows beginning cash on hand of $403,227 for the Pre-Primary Election report and failed to disclose how nearly $121,000 in contributions were funneled into his campaign overnight.

Hawkins finished a distance second behind Congressman Graves in the two previous elections and is challenging him for a third time.

Tarvin finished third in the May 11th Special Election over 20 points behind Graves.

Graves for Congress filed two reports with the FEC, the Post-Special General Election Runoff and the Pre-Primary, which combined covered the period of May 21 through June 30, 2010.

Since his election to Congress last month, the Graves re-election campaign has been on a roll. They’ve dominated the two straw polls held in the 9th District and have been endorsed by the National Rifle Association, Georgia Right to Life and Concerned Women of America.

FreedomWorks, RedState’s Erick Erickson, the Club for Growth PAC, Jim Gilchrist’s Minuteman Project, Congressman Lynn Westmoreland, Republican Whip Eric Cantor, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, Congressman Patrick McHenry and the House Conservative Fund, Congressman Paul Ryan and former 9th District candidates Bert Loftman and Eugene Moon have also endorsed Graves.
