| | 7/12/2010 - The leadership of Dade County Tea Party Patriots is proud to be able to join with our fellow TEA Party organizations in Georgia to make recommendations for the most qualified leaders to take our state and country back to its Constitutional roots. Our candidate evaluations used not only the “Elect the Right Candidate" tool but other measurements as well. The 10th amendment Center, www.tenthamendmentcenter.com has a pledge for state and federal candidates. The pledge consists of 10 affirmations on government and the sovereignty of the people. A link to both pledges is here: http://pledge.tenthamendmentcenter.com/ Since January we have asked every candidate to sign this pledge stating that they will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, as intended by the founding fathers, and defend the rights of the sovereign state of Georgia against unconstitutional federal intrusion. We took a candidate’s willingness to sign this pledge along with that candidates voting record, where one exists, into consideration when making our endorsements. Based on the above criteria we are proud to endorse the following candidates for the offices indicated: For Governor of Georgia we endorse Ray McBerry. Mr. McBerry is the only candidate of all the announced Democrats and Republicans who had an acceptable score on the “Elect the Right Candidate” tool and who was willing to sign the 10th Amendment Center pledge to stand up to the federal government on behalf of the citizens of Georgia. While we are proud to endorse Ray McBerry we are saddened that no other candidate for Georgia’s highest elected office was willing to sign their name to a pledge to in essence do what their oath of office already requires them to do. For the 9th District Congressional seat we are fortunate to have more than one person we feel would make a great Congressman to represent Dade County. Once again we used the same tools as above and originally had 3 candidates we found acceptable. Those candidates were Tom Graves, Steve Tarvin and Bobby Reese. All 3 had acceptable scores on the “Elect the Right Candidate” tool and all 3 gave their guarantee to abide by the intent of the Constitution by signing the 10th Amendment Center Federal Pledge. Unfortunately, since being sworn in to office Congressman Graves has already cast votes that in our opinion violated the 10th Amendment Center Pledge he signed on 2/26/10. Therefore, the Dade County TEA Party Patriots endorse Steve Tarvin or Bobby Reese for Congress for Georgia’s 9th Congressional District. Either of these men would serve us well in Washington to check and roll back the unconstitutional abuse of power from an out of control federal government. Respectfully submitted by the organizers of the Dade County TEA Party Patriots, Ben Brandon, Alan Brown
